Microsoft Core Fonts

The Microsoft(r) TrueType Core Fonts are elusive creatures. Presumably they're not included in the core SUSE distribution for licensing reasons, although they are basically freely available.

The fonts can be installed using YAST via the Yast Online Updates mechanism; you'll need to find the option "Download Microsoft(r) TrueType Core Fonts" in the list of installable packages. This brings up a Microsoft EULA (which if not read will presumably sign away all your rights to Microsoft) and starts a script (fetchmsttfonts.sh) which installs the fonts into /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/.

Note that the fonts are not part of any RPM packet.

For another way of installing these fonts see: http://volker.dnsalias.net/linux/msttcorefonts.html.
